1. A lecture on Remembrance of Guru Amar
Das Ji: A Social Reformer on 31st August 2024
The
History Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an
insightful lecture on the topic 'Remembrance of Guru Amar Das Ji: A Social
Reformer. The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Kawaljit Kaur, who provided
students with a deep understanding of the spiritual and social contributions of
Guru Amar Das Ji. During the lecture she delved into the significant social
reforms initiated by Guru Amar Das Ji, highlighting his efforts towards
equality and social justice. The students were profoundly moved by her valuable
insights and left the session feeling enlightened and inspired. The event
served as an important reminder of the enduring legacy of Guru Amar Das Ji and
his teachings, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended. Dr. Renu Bala also
witnessed the event.

Lecture and competition on the topic
‘Reverence and Respect of Guru Granth Sahib on 4th September 2024.
The
History Association and the Department of Music Vocal of PCM SD College for
Women, Jalandhar, organized an insightful lecture on the topic, Guru Granth
Sahib:
The reverence and respect. Mrs. Anu Bala, an
assistant professor in the Department of Music Vocal, delivered the lecture.
During the lecture, she highlighted the significance of music in the Guru
Granth Sahib. After that, the Department
of Music Vocal held a competition on Gurbani Shabad. The students were
profoundly moved by her valuable insights and left the session feeling
enlightened and inspired. Mrs Kawaljit Kaur and Dr. Renu Bala were the judges
of the competition.

Paper Reading Contest on the topic,
“A Tribute to Saragarhi Martyrs on 12th September 2024
The History
Association of PCM
SD College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully organized a Paper
Reading Contest on the topic, “A Tribute to Saragarhi Martyrs.” The event saw
enthusiastic participation from students of BA Semester I and II, who showcased
their research and knowledge in honor of the heroes of the Battle of Saragarhi.
The event provided a platform for students to engage with history in a
meaningful way and express their reverence for the martyrs through insightful
presentations. Each participant delved into the historical significance,
bravery, and legacy of the soldiers who fought at Saragarhi, paying homage to
their selfless sacrifice. The contest not only enhanced the students’
understanding of the Saragarhi battle but also fostered a sense of pride and
respect for the rich heritage of Punjab.

History Association, in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Cell,
organized a Declamation
Competition on the topic ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s
Philosophy on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights’ on 1st October
2024
The
History Association, in collaboration with Women Empowerment Cell, organized a
Declamation Competition on the topic ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy on Gender
Equality and Women’s Rights’. The event aimed to explore and reflect on Mahatma
Gandhi’s ideas regarding the empowerment of women and gender equality,
providing a platform for students to share their insights on this relevant and
stimulating subject. Participants passionately articulated their understanding
of Gandhi’s views on the role of women in society and how his philosophy of
non-violence, self-reliance, and justice extended to the upliftment of women.
They highlighted Gandhi’s belief in equal rights for women, his emphasis on
education for girls, and his advocacy for women’s participation in social and
political spheres. Among the participants, Nazia from BA Semester I bagged
first position and Gauri from the same class made it to second position and
captivated the judges and audience with their compelling speeches, showcasing
their depth of understanding and eloquence. Their thought-provoking
presentations earned them the first place in the competition, a testament to
their hard work and dedication to the topic.
5. Paper
Reading Competition on The Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi on 30th
January 2025
To mark the death anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi, a Paper Reading Competition on “The Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi” was
organized on January 30, 2025, by [Insert Organizing Department/Institution
Name] at [Insert Venue]. The event aimed to honor the Father of the Nation by
delving into his enduring legacy of truth, non-violence, and moral courage. Students
from various departments participated with great enthusiasm, presenting
well-researched papers that explored key Gandhian principles such as Ahimsa
(non-violence), Satyagraha (truth-force), Sarvodaya (welfare of
all), and Swadeshi (self-reliance). The participants highlighted how
these ideals continue to hold relevance in contemporary society and can offer
solutions to modern-day challenges such as social injustice, inequality, and
environmental degradation.

Educational cum Historical Trip 22-2-2025
The Department of History organized an enriching
Educational cum Historical Trip to several culturally significant sites,
including Baglamukhi Temple, Chintapurni Mata Temple, Shiv Badi, and Chohal
Dam. The trip aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to India's
spiritual and architectural heritage while enhancing their understanding of
historical narratives tied to these revered locations. Accompanied by faculty
members, the students visited Baglamukhi Temple, a prominent Shakti Peeth known
for its unique tantric significance, followed by the Chintapurni Mata Temple, a
site steeped in devotion and centuries-old legends. The trip also included a
visit to Shiv Badi, an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, offering insight
into Shaivite traditions and temple architecture. The final destination was the
Chouhal Dam, where students learned about the engineering marvel and its
relevance to regional development and water conservation efforts.

International Webinar on "The
Ghadar Uprising: A Fight for Freedom" Conducted by the Department of
History at PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar 28 March 2025
The Department of History of PCM SD College
for Women, Jalandhar, successfully organized an International Webinar on
"The Ghadar Uprising: A Fight for Freedom." The event aimed to shed
light on the significant role of the Ghadar Movement in India's struggle for
independence and its global impact. Renowned scholars S. Ajaib Singh Chatha,
Chairman Jagat Punjabi Sabha Canada, Dr. Satinder Kaur Kahlon, Vice President
Jagat Punjabi Sabha Canada, and Principal Sharanjit Kaur, Vice President Jagat
Punjabi Sabha Canada were speakers of the webinar. Mrs. Kawaljit Kaur from the
department of history welcomed the speakers. The speakers shared their insights
on the historical, political, and socio-economic aspects of the movement. The
session highlighted the contributions of revolutionaries who fought against
British colonial rule, emphasizing their sacrifices and the global reach of
their mission. The webinar was a great
success, reinforcing the importance of remembering and honoring the
contributions of the Ghadar revolutionaries in India's freedom struggle. Dr
Renu Bala gave vote of thanks to the speakers.

National Webinar on “The Concept of
'Streedhan' in Ancient India and its Relevance to Property Rights of Women in
India” April 11, 2025
The
Department of History of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized a
National Webinar on April 11, 2025, on the topic “The Concept of 'Streedhan' in
Ancient India and its Relevance to Property Rights of Women in India.” The
session aimed to explore the historical origins, interpretations, and evolution
of the concept of Streedhan and its legal and social implications in
contemporary times. Dr. Bhawna Rai, Assistant Professor in the Department of
History, University of North Bengal, was the esteemed expert speaker for the
event. Mrs. Kawaljit Kaur from the Department of History welcomed the speakers.
Dr. Bhawna Rai delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the significance of
Streedhan in ancient Indian society, its role in empowering women economically,
and how the understanding of this concept can influence the discourse on
women’s property rights in modern India. The webinar witnessed active
participation from faculty members, scholars, and students across the country.
It provided an enriching platform to delve into gender justice, legal reforms,
and historical continuity regarding women's rights. Dr Renu Bala gave the vote
of thanks to the speakers.

Guest lecture on the topic of "
The Significance of History in Contemporary Society "
The History Association of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an engaging lecture on the topic of " The Significance of History in Contemporary Society" on 16th March 2024. This session aimed to seek to illuminate the profound impact of historical understanding on our modern lives. History is not a stagnant narrative but a dynamic force that shapes our perceptions, decisions, and aspirations. The guest speaker of the day was Dr. Renu Bala, Assistant Professor in History, PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar. Through interactive discussions and creative exercises, students were encouraged to discover the power of narrative and its impact on shaping perspectives and understanding the world around them. The lecture underscored the role of history in cultivating critical thinking and analytical skills. Through the study of primary sources, interpretation of historical narratives, and evaluation of evidence, individuals develop the capacity to discern truth from myth and make informed decisions.

National Seminar on
"Sardar Valllabhbhai Patel- Vision for the Bright Future of India
Department of History of
PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized an ICHR-sponsored National
Seminar on the topic "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel- Vision for the Future of
India”. The Chief Guest of the seminar was Shri C.S. Talwar, Former IAS Officer
and Secretary of the Red Cross, Punjab. He delivered his discourse on the
origins of Sanatan Dharma, its ever-inclusivity, and the subsequent spiritual
flexibility and coexistence it offers. Prof. (Dr.) M. Rajiv Lochan, Professor,
Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered the Keynote
address and enlightened the audience with his remarkable views on India’s rich,
diverse, and harmonious canopy. The core of Indianness embodies tolerance and a
vision to carve a future better for our society through equity and prosperity
than today. The Resource Persons were Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Assistant Professor,
Department of History, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Prof.(Dr.) Seema
Arora, Principal, DAV College, Ferozepur Cantt, Dr Charanjit Kaur Maan,
Associate Professor, Department of History, A.S.S.M. GNDU College, Mukandpur
was the first resource person of this session, Dr Nidhi Lakhotra, Associate
Professor, Department of Political Science, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening
College, University of Delhi and Prof. Dr. Bhuvan Kumar Jha, Associate
Professor, Department of History, Associate Professor, Department of History,
University of Delhi. A book comprising about seventy research papers by
distinguished scholars was also released on this auspicious occasion.

Celebration of 115th Birthday of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh
'International Day of Non-violence' on Gandhi Jayanti
The Department celebrated the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 1st October 2022. The event was observed as theInternational Non-violence day. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Pooja Prashar delivered a lecture on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, a leader of National independence. The crux of the lecture was his advocacy of resistance through non-violence that liberated our nation from the shackles of British tyranny. A poster making competition was held on the occasion. A good number of students participated. Students were also made to take a pledge of non-violence.
Debate Competition
History Association in collaboration with Women Empowerment Cell organised a Debate Competition on the topic ‘Role of Women in Indian History’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 7th March 2023. Students from various streams participated with sheer gusto and unparallel exuberance. Jasmine of BA B.Ed Semester I grabbed first position, Loveleen of BA Semester VI bagged second position and Santoshi of B.Sc Non Medical Semester VI made it to third position.
History Association organized a Guest Lecture on Digital Archives and Museums and Its Relevance on 14th March 2023. Dr. Munmun Mondal was speaker of the day. She discussed how digital technology is important in archives and museums.
Poetical Recitation to pays homage to Shaheeds Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru
An international webinar was organized by the History Association on 12th April, 2023. The theme of the webinar was "Shaheed Bhagat Singh Source of Inspiration for Youth " The keynote speaker was Dr. Surinder Dhanjal, Department of Computing Science Thompson River University, Canada. Mrs Kawaljit Kaur, convenor of this webinar, introduced the speaker. Principal Prof. Dr. Pooja Prashar accorded a warm welcome to the speaker. Dr. Surinder Dhanjal gave a very informative lecture on the topic. Students from B.A. sem VI recited poems in webinar. Dr Renu Bala, co convenor of the webinar extended vote of thanks to the resource person and participants.

Paying
tribute to iconic freedom fighter Kartar Singh Sarabha on his 106th martyrdom
day, History Association organized a
Paper Reading Contest on 18th November 2021, thus contributing to the year-long
series of events to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The topic of the contest was
'Punjabi Sikh Revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha'. In this competition,
students from different streams participated enthusiastically.
Quiz Competition to commemorate 75th Anniversary of India's freedom as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by History Association
History Association organized a Quiz Competition on 24th November 2021, to celebrate 75th Anniversary of India's Freedom as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The topic of the quiz was 'Partition of India'.Three teams namely, A,B and C participated in the same. Loveleen, Komalpreet and Bharti of Team A were declared the winners.
National Webinar on 'A Dancing Girls from Mohenjodaro- Arts, History and Politics.
Department of History and Fine Arts organized a National Webinar on 'A Dancing Girls from Mohenjodaro- Arts, History and Politics " on 19th January 2022. Dr. Ashish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Resource Person of the day. Dr. Ashish Kumar threw considerable light on the the process of identity formation of Harappan artifacts mainly Bronze girl statue from Mohenjodaro under the colonial archaeologists like John Marshall and their fellow archaeologists.
ICHR Sponsored One-Day National Seminar
An ICHR sponsored One-Day National Seminar on ‘Relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Teaching in Contemporary Times' was organized by the Department of History of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar on 12th March 2022. Prof. Jagbir Singh, Chancellor of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda delivered the keynote address and enlightened the audience with his remarkable views highlighting the main theme of the seminar. He brooded over the loss of indigenous languages particularly our mother tongue in the wake of colonisation. Prof. Avtar Singh, Associate Professor, Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, Ramgarhia College, Phagwara was the Resource Person.
Historical cum educational visit to Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Museum and Gurdwara Gangsar Sahib in Kartarpur.
Department of History of PCM.S.D College for Women, Jalandhar in collaboration with Department of Fine Arts made a historical cum educational visit to Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Museum and Gurdwara Gangsar Sahib in Kartarpur on 8th May 2022. In which almost hundred students visited above mentioned places. Firstly they visited at Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Museum. This Memorial, envisioned as the perfect tribute to the innumerable sacrifices of the freedom fighters during independence movement. The purpose of this excursion was to familiarize students about the historical and cultural past of Punjab. Students also received an opportunity to visit Gurudwara Gangsar Sahib. This is a holy place that has been built in remembrance of the 5th Guru – Shri Guru Arjun Dev ji and the 6th Guru- Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.

National webinar
Department of History organized a National webinar on Liturgical Dimensions of Jalandhar Mahatmya": Some Reflections" on 30th June 2020. Dr Priyatosh Sharma, Associate Professor of Panjab University, Chandigarh was chairperson of the day.Dr. Priyatosh Sharma threw considerable light history of devil Jalandhar, the origin of the city Jalandhar, its Socio-cultural aspects, ways of performing Durga Puja and share his views of Tantra vidhya. The webinar was grand success as participants from far flung places joined this webinar even from the remote areas Ladakh.
